Athlete Spotlight with Southmoore’s Evan Primrose – Presented by Southern Hills Baptist Church

The game of baseball, or America’s pastime, has a loyal fanbase and for the players, the field is the only place they want to be. That can be said for Southmoore High School’s Evan Primrose.

The senior start playing ball in the first grade as a pick-up player, and he fell in love with the game. Now a middle infielder and pitcher for the Sabercats, Primrose said his playing days may come to an end after high school.

“My goal after high school right now is to finish my last year in trade school and go to work in the HVAC business,” said Primrose.

But that hasn’t stopped him from enjoying his senior season.

“Support from my family and my coaches mean a lot to me. They have put so much time and effort into helping me become the player I am today, and I am truly thankful for that,” Primrose said. “What I love the most about my teammates is that no matter how I preform in a game they are always there to support and pick me up.”

Primrose said his father is a source of inspiration and someone he has looked up to his entire life.

“My dad inspires me on and off the field. He goes to work every day to help support my family and I, and he always is there to encourage me no matter what. All of those characteristics are something that I strive to have,” said Primrose.

There are many things in his career he can be proud of, but simply playing the game is what stands out the most for the senior.

“The accomplishment I am most proud of is being able to play the game of baseball like I have been able to. God has blessed me with the athleticism, friends, and coaches along the way and that is something that I am extremely grateful for.

With several games left in the season, Primrose said he is continuing to work on his game and help his team win.

“My main strength is probably my defense. I’ve really improved on the pitching portion of that this year because I have added a couple of pitches to my arsenal. In order to get ready for competition I usually put in my headphones, listen to music and kind of drown out everything else around me so I can lock in on what I am supposed to do,” said Primrose.

As for his final days at SHS? Primrose said the school and faculty has made his high school experience great and one he will never forget.

“Southmoore is a great place for me as a student and an athlete because of all the relationships I have built here. All my teachers are willing to help at any given time, and my teammates are like a family to me.”
