Southmoore’s Kandace Burnett
Southmoore High School senior Kandace Burnett has enjoyed a great career of prep softball which led her to signing with Iowa State University where she will continue her pursuit of a higher education and a career in softball.
Southmoore head coach Jason Lingo said of Burnett before the season started, “her leadership and experience will be invaluable for the SaberCats this fall. Will continue to anchor the defense behind the plate for the SaberCats and also spend some innings at both infield corners.”
Burnett said she loves being part of the team and how they support each other. Teammates like Lucely Kutz, who is known for being vocal and funny, has made being part of the team special for Burnett and her teammates.
“I love how caring they are to me. They are always the first ones to pick up me whenever I am down,” said Burnett. “Lucely Kutz is the most vocal and funny teammate I have ever played with.”
The senior catcher was recently honored with an All-State selection, and she is currently in the running for the Miss Softball Oklahoma Award. But her favorite moment was signing her letter of intent to play for the Cyclones.
“My favorite moment of my career was committing to Iowa state,” said Burnett. “I will be continuing my athletic career at Iowa state and getting a degree in secondary education.”
At SHS, her favorite subject is Zoology, and her favorite teacher is Mr. Hanneman. Burnett is involved in several activities at SHS.
“I am part of leadership, student section leader, student athletic council, and Native American Student Association,” Burnett said.
Burnett said she is inspired by her father.
“My dad, he has sacrificed so much for me to be where I am today,” Burnett said.
Away from school, Burnett said she enjoys spending time with her dog.
