Athlete Spotlight with Westmoore’s Ravin Marshall – Presented by Triple Diamond Construction

Art can come through many different means. For junior Ravin Marshall, art presents itself to her in unique ways. To traditional paper art to 3D models, Marshall has dove into areas of artwork that she uses to express herself. Art has been a core part of her life for years, since she was young.

“I’ve always had a passion for art since I was young. It’s stayed a constant with me, and I always enjoy making art,” Marshall said.

Her style is also a unique part of her. Her art uses bright neon colors, using the colors to contrast each other in her art. People often refer to her art as “sour.” Sour, like a jawbreaker. This is a compliment, as people often remark on how compelling the artwork, they receive from her. Her art is currently focused on traditional and digital canvases, and she uses a variety of elements. From acrylic paint to alcohol ink, she uses different mediums to convey a masterpiece.

“One of my favorite art pieces is a group of clowns. It represents my friends in my group. Each outfit mirrors their personality, and the contrast of each one made me love it,” Marshall said.

Marshall also draws inspiration from her Native culture. Often, this is shown through her love for skeletons, bones, and skulls. These items are often the centerpiece of her artwork, along with intricate jewelry and decision-making dice. These 3D artworks came from creators on Instagram that she enjoyed, and she took the chance to try them herself.

“I incorporate traditional elements with my art and create characters with Native backgrounds. It allows me to express my culture in my own way. I follow a content creator on Instagram called Milky Tomato. I love their style, and I was lucky enough to meet some of their team at Galaxy Con last year. That experience inspired me to start making my own pieces of keychains and jewelry,” Marshall said.
