Westmoore’s Gavin Gagnon – Wrestling Spotlight – Presented by Triple Diamond Construction

When senior Gavin Gagnon steps onto the mat this season, it’s one step closer to finishing his high school career as a wrestler. But wrestling is not his only sport. Gagnon is a dominant football player and could spend his Saturdays on the football field next year. For now, his focus is helping the Westmoore High School wrestling team win duals while preparing for another run at the state tournament.

“A strength of my skill set is my strength and my ability to move around as a heavyweight,” said Gagnon.

Gagnon started wrestling when he was a freshman.

“The thing I’ve enjoyed the most about wrestling has been competing and being with my friends,” Gagnon said. “WHS is a great place to be a student-athlete because we have great coaches and the staff at Westmoore really supports our student athletes.”

The senior said the coaching staff at Westmoore has helped him reach his goals and he is looking forward to making the state tournament again.

“Coach Finn is a huge inspiration for me on the mat and he has definitely helped turn me into the wrestler I am now,” Gagnon said. “I think I’m most proud of qualifying for state last year.”

But when you talk to Gagnon about wrestling, he is quick to mention his teammates and what they mean to the overall success of the program.

“A teammate that has really impressed me this year his Trae Rios, not only with his wrestling but he has really stepped up as a leader in the team and has been very encouraging to everyone,” Gagnon said. “The biggest clown on the team is probably Cole Olguin and Trae Rios is usually the most serious. I love that my teams are always supportive and funny.”
