Bishop McGuinness senior running back DreAndre Bruton sees this fall as his last chance to make the most of Friday nights with a group that feels less like teammates and more like relatives. The Irish playmaker said what separates this roster is the chemistry they have built on and off the field.
“The thing I love most about my team is that we all get along with each other, we all can laugh at the same jokes, and we all understand each other. We always hype each other up, it really just feels like a big family.”
That family-first mentality traces back to home. Bruton points to his parents as the people who shaped his work ethic and mindset, especially when it came to embracing difficult challenges. He said their approach pushed him beyond his comfort zone long before he was breaking big runs on varsity fields.
“Someone who inspires me is my parents because they always push me to my limits and make sure that I will never give up. When I was a kid, they always made me do uncomfortable things so I could grow up and learn how to get out of my comfort zone.”
On the field, Bruton plays running back and takes pride in the work the Irish offensive line does to free him in space. He said some of his favorite moments are watching blocks develop and trusting his speed to turn them into points.
“I play running back, the thing I love most about running back is I can see my lineman blocking and working hard to get me in the endzone!”
Bruton stays busy year-round, competing in basketball and track for Bishop McGuinness and playing 7-on-7 for 4th Pressure outside of school. He said those extra reps and different sports help his overall development and keep him sharp heading into the season.
“I play basketball and run track. I also play 7v7 for 4th pressure, outside of school.”
