Gray Ferguson
Heritage Hall
The Heritage Hall Chargers are known for being tough competitors regardless of the sport. Gray Ferguson is a senior this year and one half of the No. 1 doubles tennis team. Ferguson has left his mark on the Charger program and is looking to finish his high school career with another big win and statement for the Chargers.
“This season so far, I have been playing No. 1 doubles for Heritage Hall. I have played doubles all three years so far, so I am looking forward to working to become a 4-time state champion with the Chargers this season,” said Ferguson.
His tennis story starts at a very young age thanks to his mother and her encouragement to get involved in the sport.
“I have been playing tennis since I was about three years old. I started at Oak Tree Country Club, and my mom got me started on tennis as she was a tennis coach and played in high school as well,” said Ferguson.
Now the senior is focused on tennis, but it’s not the only extracurricular activity Ferguson is involved in at Heritage Hall.
“I am currently involved in student council, I am the leader of our student section which is known as “The Jungle,” and I am the Senior Class President at Heritage Hall,” said Ferguson.
During his time as a student-athlete for the Chargers, Ferguson said he’s enjoyed all of the relationships he’s made and the opportunity to compete and represent the Chargers.
“I love being able to compete with a team but also individually. Most people see tennis as an individual sport, but I love the team aspect of it. Everyone has to compete and do their job for the team to succeed which I love. My favorite memory has to be either winning state my junior year in a third set after losing the first set. Or being name Oklahoma City Player of the Year with my partner Emerson Ritenour,” said Ferguson.
The senior is quick to talk about his teammates and what they have meant to him and the team over the years. This year Ferguson said the team is full of fighters.
“I love how my teammates fight no matter the occasion. We have been trained by our coaches that we are never out of the fight, and I love how my teammates know how to battle. You need to watch Owen Fellrath, through the first two tournaments, the improvements he has made from last season are amazing. Being in 6A No. 1 singles is going to be tough, but I wouldn’t want any other guy playing No. 1 singles for us than Owen. He has the grit and perseverance to win every match possible,” said Ferguson.
Ferguson plans to attend the University of Mississippi and will double major in accounting and finance. In his free time, Ferguson enjoys spending time with friends, and family.
“I really enjoy golfing on the weekends or in the summer with my buddies.”
