Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your hobbies, your passions.
I am the head wrestling coach and assistant baseball coach at Bishop McGuinness. I have two masters degrees in photonics and physics from OSU.
What classes do/did you teach?
I have taught every math class from Algebra 1 to Calculus, and I have also taught Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering. I am currently teaching Honors Chemistry and Principles of Engineering.
Where did you go to college and what led you into teaching?
I was working on my PhD in Photonics at Oklahoma State when I found myself in need of health insurance. My old coach had become the principal of a local high school and offered me a job with insurance if I would coach.
What do you love about teaching?
I fell in love with teaching by getting to meet and interact with kids, help them understand new concepts, and most importantly, show them that science was something anyone could do with the right amount of effort.
What is great about your current school?
Here at Bishop McGuinness, we offer the class Principles of Engineering that scrapes the surface of multiple engineering topics such as 3D printing, electronics, coding, etc. This allows the students to find the area of engineering that they have a passion.
The People of Oklahoma Oil and Natural Gas are committed to supporting STEM education. Why is teaching Science and Math so important?
By showing the students that they can succeed in these areas they can go on to be the inventors of tomorrow.
