Douglass’ Davon’te McCathern – Football Spotlight – Presented by K & M Trucking Inc.

By Mike Moguin

Davon’te McCathern has been a force on the football field since he arrived at Fredrick Douglass High School in Oklahoma City.

The junior tight end/fullback, who also runs track and participates in junior varsity basketball, is expected to make noise for the Trojans this fall.

The accomplishment he is most proud of was when “I achieved within a week of getting the playbook, where I memorized all the plays before my first day of practice,” McCathern said.

Playing on the gridiron has taught McCathern some valuable lessons,

“The sport of football taught me how valuable it is to be consistent, which helps you reach goals in all walks of life,” McCathern said.

He looks to “Coach Tompkins from ninth grade,” he said, as his favorite teacher. “He showed me how interesting history is.”

McCathern looks no further than himself for inspiration. “Because I know at the end of the day I will always have to push myself, because most of the time nobody will be there to push you.”

He also loves representing his high school because of its historical background.

The best advice anyone has ever given McCathern is “Always go with your first pick.” It’s something that was told to me when I was younger, when I would change my mind on multiple-choice questions, because, often or not, I’m right,” he said.

In closing, McCathern gives a big shout-out to mom.

“I would like to thank my mother for always trying her best to put me in the best position in her mind,” he said.
