Putnam City North’s Keaton Murry
Putnam City North sophomore Keaton Murry plays basketball for the Panthers, which is a sport he has played basically his whole life. His dedication to the game shows, even at a young age.
“A lefty shooting guard that got national recognition for playing with Mokan this past summer – he has some real juice to his game,” said head coach DJ Lemons. “He can shoot with range, has some burst with his first step and plays the game with some real personality. He recently got ranked No. 60 in the nation by 24/7 Sports and also got an offer from University of Missouri.”
Murry appreciates his teammates as if they were family, saying, “We all got each other’s back.” If he and some other young talent on the roster can develop a symbiotic bond on the court with the returning upperclassmen, the Panthers will be sure to have a memorable season.
When it comes to memorable moments on the court, Murry has one from last season that stands out: “Beating choctaw to go to state – it was a cool experience my freshman year,” he said.
Sometimes players have a rival they look forward to facing and for Murry, that is the Santa Fe Wolves.
“It’s always fun seeing their crowd and old friends and the atmosphere,” he said.
Before every game, Murry makes time to pray. He also tries to keep in mind what it means to have good character on the court.
“I feel like having character on the court is not showing emotions, always staying positive even through adversity,” he said. “My coach always says how you do things off the court is how you do things on the court, so however you are off the court, whether it’s bad, good, mediocre – it’ll show and carry on the court.”
Murry cares deeply about his mother and sister, who he says motivate him to be the best he can be. His goal is to stay sharp on the court, always improve, and continue to play in college and then onto the highest level he can.
