Western Heights enters 2026–27 intent on changing the culture of its football program after a winless season. Head coach Jarvis Pitts, in his fourth year at the school and first as head coach, says the Jets have “a host of young talent mixed in with experienced guys” who are ready to step up. The team has “been hard at work this calendar year” and is focused on reaping the benefits of that effort in the fall. Assistants include coaches Jones, Spencer, Brown, Allen, Allen and Owusu, giving Western Heights a solid staff to guide the rebuild.
Offensively, the Jets return six starters and will operate out of a spread base. Pitts wants to be multiple formation-wise to gain advantages in both the run and pass games, getting the ball out of the quarterback’s hand “as quick and efficient as possible.” The philosophy emphasizes taking advantage of every red zone opportunity and playing mistake-free football. Key offensive performers include senior lineman Efren Flores (6-0, 225), who plays tackle and defensive tackle, junior Hayward Martin (5-6, 167), who lines up at nose guard and middle linebacker, and sophomore receiver/corner Dequone Mosley (5-10, 156). Senior receiver/strong safety Triston Young (6-1, 185) is another important playmaker on the perimeter.
Defensively, Western Heights brings back eight starters and bases out of a 4-3 with two- and three-shell looks on the back end. The Jets’ defensive philosophy is to keep plays in front, limit explosive plays and rally to the ball in the run game. With many two-way contributors, the emphasis is on assignment soundness and effort. The combination of returning experience and a clear schematic identity gives Pitts a foundation as he works to establish a new standard for the program.
