It’s a new era of basketball for the Lady Bobcats as coach Aaron Shockley takes over the program. Coach Shockley said the team is shaping up nicely and he is optimistic, but expects improvements throughout the season.
“In my first few weeks as the new head coach, I have been very happy with how the girls have bought in and handled the transition of a new coach. We have set goals to improve and build every day, understanding where the program has been the past few years and wanting to change the way it is viewed. We will take it one game at a time and look for improvement each game,” said coach Shockley.
Katie Powell (6-0, Sr.) will play a key role in help this team not only win, but encourage and mentor the younger players on the team who need to mature at the varsity level. Powell will play in the post and has worked hard this offseason to come into the gym ready to play. Powell can score inside or outside and has developed her game around the rim.
Bella Hernandez-Davis (So.) led the team in scoring as a freshman last season. Look for her output to increase this year and expect her to score at all three levels. Hernandez-Davis is not the only underclassman making an impact this year. Hailey Shinn and Camden Greenan are two freshmen with an opportunity to make their presence felt this season. Both are pitchers on the softball team and understand what it takes to be competitive at the varsity level.
Molly Epps (Sr.) is a leader on and off the court. Epps put in the work during the offseason to improve her game and her play and leadership will be crucial for the Lady Bobcats. Other players to watch include Paisley Baker, Lilou Rousset, an exchange student and talented soccer player from France, who will return to her home country at some point during the season, and Emerson Gingerich, who battled injuries for most of her career, but appears ready to play.
