TUTTLE TIGERS
GIRLS
COACH: Jamie Combs
2023 Record: 21-8
The Tuttle Lady Tigers are set for an exciting season, despite entering a bit of a rebuilding phase after graduating four of their top six players, including their two leading scorers. Head coach Jamie Combs is optimistic about the team’s potential, as talented underclassmen prepare to step up and take on larger roles this year.
“We are in somewhat of a rebuilding year,” Combs said. “We have a number of talented underclassmen who have been waiting their turn and will have a chance to step up and be big contributors this season.”
Returning to anchor the team is junior combo guard Marissa Sandlin (5-9, Jr.), who averaged 7.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game last season. Sandlin is poised to take on a leadership role this year. “Marissa is a vocal leader and consistently our hardest worker on the floor,” Combs said. “She’s capable of attacking the rim, shooting the three, or posting up and finishing with her back to the basket. She’ll be a key factor in our success this season.”
Senior guard Kinzley Battles (5-8, Sr.) also returns to provide leadership and defensive intensity. She averaged 4.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.0 steal per game last season. “Kinzley is quick and athletic,” Combs said. “She’s our best defender and has the ability to get to the rim and finish.”
Freshman point guard Lakyn Smith (5-3, Fr.) and combo guard Evalynn Mitchell (5-9, Fr.) are two underclassmen to watch. Smith is praised for her ability to get to the rim and finish against bigger players, while Mitchell’s length and athleticism will make her a key contributor in rebounding and defense.
With a mix of experienced seniors and promising newcomers, the Lady Tigers are ready to compete in what promises to be an exciting season.
