Blanchard’s Sullivyn Sneed
Blanchard High School midfielder Sullivyn Sneed has embraced a new role on the pitch while helping guide one of the school’s youngest athletic programs. A varsity soccer standout, she has quickly become a key piece for the Lions as they build on a surprisingly successful debut season.
Last season, Sneed played center mid, but coaches recently moved her to holding midfielder, where she now anchors the middle of the field in front of the back line. She said the toughest part of the switch has been learning how to position herself without disrupting her defenders. “Last season I played center mid, but I was recently moved to holding mid,” Sneed said. “The toughest part about playing this position for me is staying out of my center backs’ way.”
Sneed said one of her biggest strengths is her vision, which allows her to read the game and set up scoring chances for teammates. “A strength I have is being able to see the field and setting up plays,” she said. “I’m working to improve my communication while on the field.” She credits soccer with teaching her leadership and teamwork, qualities she believes will carry into college and her career.
The tight-knit nature of Blanchard’s young program is one of the things Sneed values most. “I love that our team feels like a second family to me,” she said. “It feels good to have a great support system behind me no matter what.” She said senior teammate Addison Schmidt is the squad’s most vocal presence, while teammate Olivia Booth keeps practices and games loose with her humor.
Sneed’s favorite memory so far is the Lions’ inaugural junior season, the first year Blanchard fielded a soccer team. The Lions finished 11-3, far surpassing outside expectations for a brand-new program. “This was the very first year my school had a soccer team, and we ended with a record of 11-3, winning way more games than anyone expected,” she said. “It was amazing to see how much we accomplished as a team.”
In the classroom, Sneed leans toward math, a subject she says has always come naturally. She cites English teacher Mrs. Rutledge and math teacher and soccer coach, Coach Ketchum, who has taught her in AP Pre-calculus and AP Calculus, as her favorite teachers. She is also a member of National Honor Society, a 2025 Oklahoma Girls State alum and recently completed her first cross country season.
Away from school and sports, Sneed said she enjoys spending time with her sisters, shopping and driving around with friends. She points to her mom as her biggest inspiration and an example of the ambitious, authentic person she hopes to become.
