Throughout the span of an athlete’s career, they can create a multitude of memories. While some of these moments may be with their team during a competition, there are others that are more of a personal accomplishment or achievement. Katie Powell’s favorite memory is one where she was able to overcome an injury.
“The highlight of my career is stepping on the court after my surgery,” Powell said. “Over the summer while playing for my travel team, Team Oklahoma National, I ended up with a Jones fracture during my last tournament. I had to have surgery, and that was tough for me. The feeling of being able to be back doing what I love has been the greatest highlight of my career.”
In her junior year at Bridge Creek High School, Kaitie plays center for the Lady Bobcats basketball team. Outside of basketball, she is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Council.
Anytime she steps on the basketball court, Katie knows that there are people looking up to her and that is something she is happy about.

“To me when I’m playing for my high school, I am playing for the little girls that are watching me that want to be where I am one day,” she said. “I play for our loyal fans that sit in the stands every game and cheer my team on. It means a great amount to me that I make them all proud when I play.”
There are a number of people that have made an impact on Powell’s life and helped shape her into the person that she is today.
“My mom is my biggest role model,” she said. “She has been the one to push me forward in my basketball career. My biggest influence would be Kobe Bryant. I strive to have the mamba mentality, and I try my best to be the greatest version of myself. Also, my first grade teacher, Mrs. Kelley, has had the greatest impact on my life. She has watched me grow up to be the person I am today, and every time I see her she puts a smile on my face. I can never pass her without a hug.”
