Newcastle’s Reagan Greenroyd Athlete Spotlight Presented by Focus Federal Credit Union

Reagan Greenroyd started playing basketball in the first grade. She enjoyed
dribbling around the house with a small basketball so much her mom signed her up
to play. Now a sophomore at Newcastle High School, Reagan never stopped
playing.

“My sport has taught me a number of things, but one would be to not sit around and
wait for something to get good. Take situations into your own hands and work for
everything.

“The fact that I get to be a part of such a close group of people that love each other
is my favorite part. God gave me a natural talent to enjoy here on earth so I am very
passionate about the fact that I’m so lucky to wake up everyday and have this
talent,”said Reagan.

Many people have inspired Reagan, starting with her brother. “He inspires me with
how hard he works and what he expects from himself doing extremely hard things in
college working for a career,” she said.

The teammate to leave the biggest impression is Bella. “She works harder than
anyone I’ve ever played with and it rubs off on me as a player,” says Reagan.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is a professional basketball player Reagan looks up to
because he built his craft from a humble beginning into something positive he uses
to help others.

Mr. Ward, who taught eighth grade pre-algebra, is her favorite teacher. “He was firm
but had a sense of humor, and also cared about our education and future,” she said.
“I want to thank my mom and dad and all my siblings along with extended family for
all they sacrifice for me, my teammates, coach Copeland, Austin, and Sanders.
Lastly a huge thanks to coach Cameron for developing my love for the game
through my whole life,” said Reagan.

For Reagan the best memories will always be “growing up, driving all around
Oklahoma with my parents for hundreds of weekend tournaments and getting to
spend time with them.”
