2024 Prague Football Preview – Presented by McKee Utility

PRAGUE RED DEVILS

Coach: RAFE WATKINS

11-1

OFFENSE

The Red Devils had an outstanding season a year ago, ending with an 11-1 record and outsourcing their opponents by an average of 24 points per game. After taking a tough hit from graduation, head coach Rafe Watkins knows his team has their work cut out for them, but he is looking for guys to step up and fill the shoes. “We will be replacing nearly everyone,” Watkins said. “We had two great senior classes back-to-back. We will be very young and where we have older kids, they will be inexperienced. I will say this about our new team, that they are not afraid to work and be coached so they will be fun to work with this year. Lots of work to be done though.” Luke Linville (6-0, 205, Sr.) will take the reins at quarterback and lead the offense. Joining him in the backfield will be two solid running backs in Tate McClendon (5-6, 165, Jr.) and Ronan Martin (5-8, 188, Sr.). These two will work to find open running lanes and try to make their way to pay dirt. On the outside, Mason Provaznik (5-9, 175, Sr.) and Kaden Schultz (5-10, 165, Sr.) will be Linville’s targets at wide receiver. Anchoring the offensive line and working to keep the defense out of the backfield will be Jaxon Smith (6-7, 248, Sr.) at tackle.

DEFENSE

For the defense to be successful this season, they will need to be able to stop the run. Leading that charge for Prague will be Martin at linebacker. Over the past two seasons, he has been the team’s top tackler, amassing a total of 256 tackles. He looks to continue to be a dominant player and also a strong leader on this team. Rhett Quary (5-8, 225, So.), Kade McKee (5-11, 190, Fr.), and Smith will be problematic on the defensive line. They are three strong and physical athletes that will work to wreak havoc up front. In the secondary, Linville will be at free safety and Provaznik will play defensive back. Both are quick and will look to shut down the opponents passing game and keep the number of big plays to a minimum. Assistant coaches for the Red Devils this season are Scott Martin, Tyree York, and Jimmy Goodnight.
