Entering her sixth season, coach Lacy Darity continues to grow the fastpitch program at Mustang High School to new levels. Last season the team finished the season 32-3 and defeated Choctaw in the state finals, 8-2 to win the schools fourth state title in fastpitch. That win was followed up in the spring with a slowpitch state title giving the Lady Broncos the softball sweep for the year.
“We are excited about this upcoming season. We return a good core from last season’s state championship team and have some talented players looking to step up into extended roles this year,” coach Darity said.
Several player making their return are looking to do what no Mustang fastpitch team has done; win back-to-back state titles.
“Returning are pitcher River Mount, who went undefeated last season, catcher Jade Ashbaugh, pitchers Skyla Hagan and Jenna Poage, infielder Adyson McGavock, and outfielders Madison Smith, Rylie Jeffreys, and Weslyn McCorvey, who missed all of last season with an ACL injury,” coach
Mount’s numbers as a sophomore were certainly impressive. In 2025, Mount pitched the team to a state championship with a 18-0 record and three saves to her credit. On the season she recorded 114 strikeouts to only 12 walks in 112 innings and finished with a .808 ERA. McCorvey, who makes her return to the team, has power at the plate and speed on the bases and was a big part of the slowpitch championship run.
Also look for Maddyson and Makenzie Murray. As a freshman, Maddyson led the team with a .517 batting average and was second on the team in homeruns with seven. Makenzie is a versatile player, playing multiple positions and leading with a tremendous work ethic.
