Athlete Spotlight with Community Christian’s Ean Wells – Presented by Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Norman

All sports require some level of work and physical preparation. Whether it be working out in the gym or practicing on the field or court, it takes time to become an outstanding athlete. Ean Wells is a wrestler at Community Christian and he says that along with the physical work, it also takes a lot of mental work too.

“I feel like wrestling is as much a mental sport as it is a physical sport,” Wells said. “So being mentally tough is a very important thing. Which I believe I’m granted strength of mind through my trust and relationship with Jesus.”

Wells knows that the work is important but there are days when it can be tough to get going. He says on those days, he remembers why he is competing.

“Glorifying God is my main motivator for wrestling,” he said. “Just being able to compete on the mat with a God given ability and determination, just makes me want to wrestle hard and at my best to glorify him. The highlight moment has been being the first wrestler from ccs to have over 100 wins for a high school career.”

There have been several people in his life that have been influential and helped shape Ean into the person that he is today.

“One of my biggest role models is definitely my dad,” he said. “He has always pushed me to work hard and is a great example of a servant leader. The teacher who has had the biggest impact on me is actually my mom. She has always pushed me to chase after God, and is my biggest supporter.”

As a student-athlete, Ean knows the importance of succeeding in the classroom as well. And that can take its share of work.

“Balancing school and activities can be really hard, but having your priorities straight is always a good place to start. School will always be the most important, and should take up most of your time,” he stated. “You can decide what is important after that, but being committed to school means you’re committed to your very future. If you know what your priorities are, it will make balancing everything that much easier.”
