Community Christian School senior Destin Edwards has been the heartbeat of the boys basketball team for years. A four-year starter, Edward is very close to reaching the 1,000-point milestone for his basketball career – a strong testament to his consistency and impact on the court. Head coach Tim Price calls him “the heart and soul of our team,” adding that he is one of the top point guards in the state and expected to be among the top guards in Class 3A. Price also praises Edward’s ability to lead both vocally and by example.
Edwards is a leader for his team. Running the offense and setting the tempo each night, he embraces the responsibility that comes with leading from the front. His mindset has been key to the team’s success.
“Playing with joy and using that as our key to winning,” he said of his motivation.
That approach has shaped the culture around him and fueled his performance. As a senior point guard, Edwards has worked to sharpen his decision-making. One thing he would like to see improve in his game this season is his assist-to-turnover ratio.
One moment that stands out most this 2025-26 season came on senior night as Community Christian went up against Purcell. Community Christian was down 20 points in the first half but they pulled together and came back and won in the final minute of the game. It was an exhilarating game for Destin and his team!
When asked who inspires him and has had the biggest impact on his journey, his answer was simple: “My dad.” he shared.
Through basketball, he has learned discipline and focus. His goal this season is clear: “To make it to the state tournament.”
