Holdenville’s Bo Black – Athlete Spotlight – Firelake Pizza

Holdenville High School senior Bo Black is ready to make his final season with the Wolverines one to remember, leaning on years of chemistry with teammates and a faith-driven approach to the game. A versatile presence at running back and middle linebacker, Black said the bond within the Holdenville program has been built over time and strengthened through shared goals.

“We have grown up playing together and have always stuck together. We all have the same goals and are working hard to achieve them. We hold each other accountable.”

That accountability extends beyond Friday nights. Black credits his faith for keeping him grounded and focused, no matter what happens between the whistles. “Jesus Christ inspires me. I know that no matter what happens on the field, He will always be there and never let me down.”

On the field, Black values the familiarity that comes from years of lining up beside the same teammates. “I play running back and middle linebacker. I like that my teammates and I have played together enough that we can read each other and help each other out.” That connection has been reinforced through a productive offseason as the Wolverines prepare for the fall.

“We have put in the work this summer. The players have showed up and worked hard and gotten stronger. I’m excited about making our senior season the best one yet.”

Black is a multi-sport athlete, competing in baseball and staying involved on campus through National Honor Society, Students Standing Strong (S3) and Key Club. He said his younger brother, Brayden, has been a key influence, pushing him to keep improving. “My younger brother, Brayden, holds me accountable, pushes me to do my very best, and always has my back.”

As he heads into his senior year, Black is still weighing whether college or trade school will be the next step, but he knows exactly how he wants to play. “I go hard every play and am continually working to improve my game by watching film, working out, and doing extras.” That commitment, paired with a better ability to read pulling guards on defense, has Black determined to help Holdenville make the most of this season.
