North Rock Creek’s Kassidy Streber
North Rock Creek High School’s Kassidy Streber is proving that a busy schedule is no barrier to success, balancing varsity softball with a full slate of responsibilities in FFA. A driven student-athlete, she is learning to juggle long days at practice with early mornings in the barn, determined to excel in both the classroom and the arena.
On the softball field, Streber said her game has taken a step forward coming into the new season. “My hitting and adjusting to the speed of high school softball,” she said, have been her biggest areas of improvement as she continues to grow into a key contributor for the Cougars. She credits her teammates with creating an atmosphere where everyone is pulling in the same direction. “We all love to play softball,” Streber said. “We work together and support one another to be the best team we can be.”
That sense of teamwork extends beyond the diamond and into the agriculture classroom and show ring, where FFA has become Streber’s favorite part of the school day. “FFA is my favorite subject and Coach Cox is my favorite teacher,” she said. Streber is heavily involved in the program, participating in raising and showing pigs, Opening and Closing Ceremonies, veterinary medicine and livestock judging. Each activity, she said, offers a different opportunity to grow, whether she is in official dress, in the classroom or in the show ring.
What she enjoys most about FFA, though, goes beyond competition and awards. “The friends I have made, and opportunities created through various FFA activities,” she said, are what make the organization special. Those relationships and experiences, combined with softball, have taught her lessons she believes will last well past high school. “Responsibility through practice, games, workouts and caring for livestock,” she said, are daily expectations, along with “professionalism on how to carry myself and interact with others.”
Streber points to her dad as the person who inspires her most. “My Dad, because he always pushes me to be a better athlete and person,” she said. That guidance helps her navigate what she calls the most difficult part of being both a softball player and FFA member: “Constantly juggling my schedule for both activities and the preparation it takes to succeed in both activities.”
When she does find rare free time, Streber keeps it simple. “Sleeping, I have a busy schedule,” she said, adding that she also enjoys attending church and spending time with family and friends. Surrounded by supportive teammates — including vocal leader Sophie Morris and comic relief from Presley Rosser — and grounded by her FFA experiences, Streber is building a future shaped by hard work, responsibility and the willingness to do a little bit of everything.
