North Rock Creek’s Mavrick Wingo – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Gordon Cooper Technology Center

Mavrick Wingo, an 11th grader at North Rock Creek High School, is the kind of student who believes in working hard, both on the baseball field and in the classroom. Balancing high school studies, competitive baseball, and hands-on training at Gordon Cooper Technology Center has shaped him into a motivated and determined young man with a clear vision for his future.

“I enjoy the competitiveness of baseball because it’s a 1-on-1 sport, it’s pitcher vs batter, and that’s what I love about it,” Mavrick said. The thrill of those high-pressure moments keeps him focused and driven, knowing that every at-bat is an opportunity to improve.

One of his proudest memories came when his team made it to the baseball state tournament in 2025, a moment he’ll never forget. “Going to the baseball state tournament in 2025,” he said, reflecting on the experience with a smile.

Mavrick’s foundation of discipline and respect comes from his parents, who have shaped the way he approaches both sports and life. “My parents have been a great influence for me,” he said. “They taught me how to be a well-mannered man.”

When he isn’t playing for North Rock Creek, Mavrick competes for his summer travel team, Veteran Bat Co., continuing to sharpen his baseball skills off-season. But it’s his time at Gordon Cooper Technology Center that’s preparing him for a future beyond the field.

“I attend Gordon Cooper Technology Center,” Mavrick said. “I heard about Gordon Cooper through my school.”

Within the “Foundations of Construction” program, Mavrick is gaining valuable experience that connects directly to his family’s success. “Some of my family have done well in the construction industry, with multiple owning businesses,” he explained.

The real-world skills and hands-on learning at Tech have made a lasting impression. “It is training me for the real world and I am learning physical skills in my classes,” he said. “I definitely recommend tech school because of the wide variety of things you can study.”

Looking toward the future, Mavrick has big goals both on and off the diamond. “My plans after high school are to play baseball for as long as I can,” he said. “After that, I want to pursue HVAC or electricity.”
