“Hard work takes effort but in the long run it will get you there.”
Karma Mason, a sophomore at Shawnee High School, believes this to be the best advice she could tell her younger self. Mason plays basketball and softball for the Wolves, motivated to compete by her family and her faith. She was inspired to pursue athletics after watching her older brother play as she grew up, learning and growing in the game from a young age.
The accomplishment Mason is most proud of is making Principal’s Honor Roll and becoming a starter for the Lady Wolves’ basketball team. She hopes to make a big impact on her teammates and the program as a whole. Representing her school and community well means a lot to her. For Mason, representing the Lady Wolves is important, because it gives her a chance to highlight the good things about Shawnee and the school.
Mason’s mother and father are her biggest inspiration. They taught her how to have a good work ethic, and for that she is very grateful. When it comes to school, her seventh grade math teacher has impacted her the most. “She always believed in me,” Mason shared. “Always helped me if I needed extra help.” She is very proud to live in Shawnee and attend their high school.
Mason believes one of the most challenging things she has encountered in her athletic career is bringing her all as she’s playing, keeping her full potential unlocked at all times.. She overcomes this challenge by bringing good energy to every game and remembering how well she has played before.
As a student and athlete, Mason expresses her love and pride for her community and her school. “Thank you for believing in me and trusting me to be a great player for the program.” Mason said when asked about sharing a message to her older teammates.
