Every season introduces a new player ready to rise, and for Strother freshman De’Angelo Fixico, this year is all about proving what hard work and hunger can build. His goals are as bold as his ambition, reflecting a young athlete already thinking bigger. “My personal goals this season is to start one of the games this season, and go undefeated,” he said. For a freshman stepping into high school basketball, there’s no mistaking his mindset—he intends to make an impact immediately.
A big part of that drive comes from the environment around him. “The teams moral this season is amazing; everyone’s in a good mood and ready to win,” De’Angelo shared. That strong energy has fueled noticeable growth across the roster. “I’d say the team’s biggest improvement this year is definitely shooting, moving and sharing the ball more.” With that kind of progress, their goals naturally extend beyond just competing. “My team’s goals are to win most of our games and tournaments this year and make a name for ourselves; we are going to reach this goal by working hard and dedication!”

When asked what he believes separates Strother from other groups, De’Angelo didn’t hesitate. “The team’s biggest strength right now is shooting; we are always ready to shoot.” His own role fits comfortably into the system. “I play power forward and center,” positions where physicality and awareness matter most. Reading defenses is part of that responsibility. “I look for the set they are in, such as, where their post is at or where their guards are.”

Once he steps under the lights, everything becomes simple: “My mindset is winning the moment that I step onto that court.”
He also thinks beyond the present and hopes his time at Strother leaves a mark. “After I graduate, hopefully I’ve done enough for Strother… and I want my legacy to be a game changer.” And he has a message for the people cheering him on: “To the community of Strother: we will make a name for Strother this year.”
Like every athlete, he has his favorite memories: “My favorite memory is those after-game meals we have after a big game or big win.”
With 6 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists per game, De’Angelo Fixico is only just beginning. “My plan after high school is to go to college and work my way up to the NBA.”
