Tecumseh’s Aleigha McCullough – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Gordon Cooper Technology Center

When a student enters their high school years, they usually start preparing for what they are going to do once they graduate. Aleigha McCullough is in her senior year at Tecumseh High School and she has a plan to be a nurse and she says that attending Gordon Cooper Technology Center is playing a big part in her being prepared for that career.

“I am in the Health Careers class at Gordon Cooper in Seminole,” she said. “When our school first announced Gordon Cooper I didn’t really think I wanted to go. But the more I looked into it and thought about my future the more I realized how useful a trade would be. Soon after looking into it I chose to apply for the Health Careers program to prepare for eventually being a Labor and Delivery Nurse.”

After graduating high school and completing her program at Gordon Cooper, McCullough looks to go to Seminole State College for two years and then transfer to Oklahoma State University and enroll in the nursing program.

“After graduating I don’t think I’m going to stick to one specific specialty of nursing because I want to fall in love with whatever I’m doing and be able to know that is 100% what I want to be doing.”

Aleigha has enjoyed her time at Gordon Cooper and says that anyone considering it would not be disappointed.

“To anyone considering Gordon Cooper Tech I would absolutely recommend it,” she said. “It is so useful and you learn so much about your workplace and they try to keep it as professional as possible in order to prepare you for real world work spaces.”

At Tecumseh, McCullough is a member of the softball team and she has made a lot of memories during her time in the program.

“My most memorable moment in my softball career has been hitting my first home run against North Rock Creek,” she said. “I hadn’t even realized that it even went that far, I genuinely thought I hit just a regular pop fly. Watching it go over that fence was the most shocking and amazing feeling because I had doubted myself up until that moment.”
