The Academy’s Cora Shutt
Basketball is a passion for hundreds of prep players around the state of Oklahoma. The Academy’s Cora Shutt is no different. A combo guard in her senior year, Shutt said she has continued to work at her craft and help her team win games.
“I think my biggest strength in the game is my court vision. My first instinct is to always find the open girls on the court but this year I have gotten better at driving to the basket. I have tried to have more of a scoring mindset, and I have really seen a difference,” said Shutt.
The senior said she was inspired by her former teammates to become a leader this season as the upperclassman.
“I am most inspired by the former senior from last year. Although she did not play much, I was always so encouraged by her just showing up and giving it her all no matter what,” said Shutt.
“ ”Representing The Academy on and off the court is something Shutt is proud to do.
“The Academy sports program has given athletes a unique experience. Although our school focuses a lot more on academics our ability to play multiple sports no matter what your skill level is, is a blessing. All my coaches want to know me as a person, not just a player, which makes my experience as an athlete so great,” said Shutt.
This season the team is off to a great start and Shutt is quick to point out her teammates and their contributions to that success.
“I love that my teammates really take the saying, “win as a team and lose as a team” seriously. No one is ever mad at each other after a game because we know it is not one person’s fault. Everyone is always so encouraging after any loss even if they had no playing time,” said Shutt.
After high school Shutt plans to attend Oklahoma State University where she will study interior design.
