Yukon’s Camryn Parr
By Ivy Knapp
Yukon sophomore Camryn Parr has learned how to balance the demands of being both a student and an athlete. Currently in the 10th grade, Camryn has been playing softball for 12 years and slow pitch softball for the past two. Her love for the sport began with curiosity of what it was all about.
“I was curious about the game and fell in love with it,” she said. That interest quickly turned into passion, shaping a big part of her life both on and off the field.
Camryn plays right center and pitcher, positions that allow her athletic ability and confidence to shine. She enjoys the fast pace and intensity that come with those roles, especially in the outfield.
“I like to dive in the outfield and throw people out,” she shared. Her great effort makes her a key player, but what she values most about softball isn’t just competition. Her favorite part of being on the team is being out on the field with all of her friends. This represents how important teamwork and friendships are to her.
Balancing schoolwork with practices and games can be challenging, but Camryn has developed a strong routine. She makes sure to finish her assignments early so she can stay focused during the season.
“I always get my schoolwork done so I don’t have to worry about it and can focus on softball,” she explained. Chemistry has been the most difficult subject for her during the season because it involves a lot of work. Camryn stays organized by communicating with her teachers ahead of time and keeping track of her responsibilities.
Softball has helped Camryn succeed in the classroom by teaching to stay disciplined. “You have to focus in the game and the classroom,” she said. Her teachers play a big role in her success as well. They check in with her and offer help when she needs it. Camryn appreciates their support and understanding as she balances her schedule.

Although she wasn’t influenced by anyone specific to play slow pitch softball, Camryn decided to give it a try on her own. That decision paid off, as she found the sport fun and enjoyed having great coaches. Being a student-athlete has strengthened her work ethic by teaching her discipline and responsibility. This season, her academic goal is to have no missing assignments, while her softball goal is to keep a positive attitude and motivate her team.
After graduating, Camryn plans to attend UCO and earn her bachelor’s degree in education. One day, she hopes to become a coach herself. Her advice to younger student-athletes is very meaningful. Put school before sports because school is the most important thing.
