Yukon’s Paige Fulmer
By Trina Walker
Basketball is a constant in Paige Fulmer’s life. It blocks the distractions and keeps her on track to be the best version of herself. She is a junior at Yukon High School, learning every day how to become a better player and person.
“Basketball has taught me discipline and how to push through tough days. It has helped me learn how to accept constructive criticism, work through mistakes and persevere when things become challenging,” Fulmer said.
Meeting people and making connections is one thing Fulmer enjoys about basketball. She values lifelong friendships made while playing her sport. The bond with her teammates is another aspect of the game she loves. Blasting music in the locker room before games to hype everyone up is just a bonus.
“Knowing that everyone is working together to achieve the same goal makes the connection much stronger. Representing my school makes me feel proud, knowing that I am playing for something bigger than myself,” she said.
The teammate to leave the biggest impression is Tayler Pivinska.
“She consistently boosts my confidence and never stops encouraging me,” Fulmer said.
Fulmer grew up playing basketball with her brothers. From family fun to full competition, her passion for the game continues to grow. She finds inspiration in her parents. They support her through adversity and demonstrate the value of hard work. Their belief motivates her to improve.
“I would like to thank God for giving me the ability to play basketball, my family for always being there for me and my coaches for continually pushing me to be the best version of myself,” she said.
The best advice, says Fulmer, is to always be grateful. She applies this to her interests on and off the court. She loves to draw and always enjoys family vacations. Fulmer recalls a memorable ski trip with her family.
“It was the first time we celebrated Christmas together in a different state, which made it especially meaningful,” Fulmer said.
In school, her favorite subject is math. Fulmer is strong with numbers and enjoys the challenge. Mr. Parker, her favorite teacher, makes math even more fun.
