SOUTHMOORE SABERCATS
Coach: JAKE MONDEN
0-10
OFFENSE
The Sabercats may have struggled last season, but as they begin the 2024 campaign, they will look to learn from last season and see improvements this season. Head coach Jake Monden says with the returners they have coming back, he is looking forward to this season. “We bring back a massive amount of experience and depth from last season,” he said. “Last year, we played over 30 sophomores. With developed depth in the offseason and a new team philosophy, we look to have the best season in recent memory.” Taven Hayes (6-1, 180, So.) will lead the offense at quarterback. He is athletic, competitive, and a hard worker. He is a dual threat that will keep the defense on their toes. The duo of Braylon Mullins (6-1, 190, So.) and Isaiah Cato (5-10, 165, Sr.) will be targets for Hayes at wide receiver. Tylenn Diggs (5-10, 170, So.) is going to work to find the open running lanes out of the backfield as a running back. Anchoring the offensive line will be Cale Hornbeck (6-6, 290, Sr.) at tackle.
DEFENSE
The defensive unit of the Sabercats allowed their opponents to average 47 points per contest last season. This season, they will look to play faster and more aggressively. The defensive line will play a big part in that, and it will be led by Nakwaine Carter (6-3, 260, Jr.). He had a solid season a year ago, which garnered him attention from several Division 1 colleges, from which he received four offers. Joining him on the defensive line and looking to wreak havoc will be Joseph Clay (6-3, 240, Sr.), Joseph Dover (6-2, 235, Jr.), and Marcus Weddle (6-1, 260, Sr.). Playing at linebacker will be Kotlon Ashley (6-1, 220, Jr.) and Christian Delora (6-0, 180, Jr.). Assistant coaches for the Sabercats this season are Greg Lane, William Redmen, Bryan Freeman, Greg Hayes, Ryan Paul, Trey Steward, Leon Johnson, Christian Littlehead, John Emerson, James Seeney, and Dom Berry.
