Every player wants to contribute to the overall success of the team. Luther High School’s Amber Richards has worked hard to get to where she is today, a shooting guard for the Luther Lions.
Richards brings many skills to the court, but she has shown tremendous improvement on the defensive end of the court this season.
“My shooting, especially from the three-point line, is my strong spot. But this season, I’ve been focusing on improving my defensive skills,” Richards said. “I’ve spent extra time doing drills and watching my opponents’ moves. By strengthening my defense, I hope to become a more well-rounded player and help our team on both ends of the court.”
Being around her teammates and knowing they support her makes being part of the team great for Richards.
“The support from my teammates and the cheers from the crowd made it feel like I’ve been part of the team for years,” Richards said. “What I love about my teammates is their unwavering support. We always have each other’s backs, both on and off the court, which creates a strong sense of unity. In addition to basketball, I also do cheer and track. Being a part of such supportive teams and participating in multiple sports not only enhances my athletic skills but also teaches me valuable lessons about teamwork.”
Richards said the community of Luther loves their basketball teams.
“The sense of community at LHS is amazing. Everyone is very supportive, and the school spirit makes every game super exciting. Being at LHS has helped me grow,” said Richards.
As for her teammates, Richards is quick to give them credit for what they do on the court.
“This season, I’ve been impressed with my teammate Paeton. Watching Paeton’s dedication to improving her game has motivated me to push myself harder in practice and focus on becoming a better player,” said Richards.
After high school, Richards plans to attend college and eventually start her own business.
“I want to continue developing my leadership skills and volunteer in my community to give back and make a positive impact. My goal is to build a successful career, contribute to my community, and continue growing both personally and professionally,” said Richards.
