Little Axe’s Jenavece Norris – Wrestling Spotlight – Presented by Mid-America Technology Center

Little Axe High School junior Jenavece Norris, is in her second year on the mat as a member of the varsity wrestling team.

In a short time, Norris has wrestled some great opponents and has continued to advance her skill set. Competing is something that comes natural to Norris.

“My favorite memory as a wrestler for Little Axe has to be wrestling at the Kansas City Stampede the end of last year. It was an amazing experience and I met and wrestled many great wrestlers from all over the states,” said Norris.

Back home, Norris said she loves being around her teammates and representing Little Axe HS in competition.

“LAHS women’s wrestling is like a family. Everyone has my back, and we all build each other up,” Norris said. “What I love most about my teammates is their individual personalities that help keep our team so lively and fun.”

As a wrestler, Norris said she is influenced by her teammates, past and present.

“The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me has to be Sydney Harris. Her attitude and drive has helped me become a better wrestler. She helps me and the team with all of our problems and I am so grateful for her,” Norris said.

Norris said she the focus this season was to keep improving on the mat.

“I would say my strength is really my mindset and having a positive attitude about things. I have improved on my determination throughout the year pushing myself further to achieve more within wrestling.”

Away from LAHS, Norris is attending classes at Mid America Tech where she is taking Veterinary Assistant course.

“After high school my goal is to graduate college with a veterinary degree in large animals,” Norris said. “What I most enjoy at Mid America is the hands-on learning I have access to and my wonderful teacher, Mrs. Pruitt, who is helping me on my journey to become a veterinarian.”
