Carter Reese has been playing tennis for about seven years now. Although he jokes that ping pong is still his first love, when Reese was introduced to tennis he was hooked.
“I attended Coach Mays’ summer camp just before middle school and I fell in love with the game,” said Reese.
Reese says that he looks up to his older sister as a role model. Even his favorite memory so far in his high school career includes her influence.
“Winning 1 singles along with my sister at 5A public school state my sophomore year,” Reese describes as his best tennis memory.
When it comes to staying motivated, Reese’s philosophy is simple, but effective.
“Winning is more fun than losing,” he states plainly.
And he is right, of course. The win is especially sweeter when it is over a tough opponent. Reese says that the Duncan boys have been his favorite rival to go up against.
“They always show up with great attitudes ready to compete,” he said.
Reese appreciates the closeness he has with his teammates. They are so in-sync that they are typically listening to the same hype music as they prep for a match.
“My teammates are my friends. They are a constant source of laughter, competition, and encouragement all at the same time,” he said. “Every year, we seem to end up with a theme song we listen to before we head to the courts. This year, it became ‘Highway Patrol’ by Junior Brown.”
In addition to tennis, Reese is involved in Youth for Christ and Unified Club at Carl Albert. After high school he plans to play tennis at the collegiate level while pursuing a degree in engineering.
