2025 Norman North Timberwolves – Football Preview – Presented by David Ritter, Shelter Insurance

NORMAN NORTH TIMBERWOLVES

Coach: JUSTIN JONES

4-8

OFFENSE

After 28 years of football, the Norman North Timberwolves will finally have a place to call their own. The Crosstown Clash against Norman High has been played at the University of Oklahoma and at Harve Collins Field, but for the first time in 2025, the Timberwolves will truly be the home team. Head coach Justin Jones has an arsenal of skill position players to unleash in tandem with the new stadium. Mason James (6-0, 175, Sr.) is electric. The University of Washington commit can play any offensive position, including quarterback in the Wildcat formation. James already has 34 career touchdowns heading into his senior season. Nash Henry (6-3, 195, So.) has the inside track at quarterback. He’s battling with Joseph Kelley (5-11, 175, Jr.) for the starting position. The Timberwolves will once again spread the field and look to get the ball in the hands of their playmakers. Aiden Williams (6-0, 160, Jr.) has breakaway speed on the outside. Vlad Afansiev (5-10, 175, Jr.) and Bryce Collier (5-10, 165, Sr.) work out of the slot along with James and J.P. Lundquist (6-0, 170, So.) part of a promising sophomore class. Byron Mason (5-11, 190, Jr.) is poised for a breakout year after splitting time at running back. Mason rushed 59 times for more than 400 yards as a sophomore and will see both of those numbers go up in 2025. Tight end Ben Kolar (6-3, 225, Jr.) is the younger brother of Baltimore Ravens tight end Charlie Kolar. He played beyond his years as a sophomore, catching 37 passes for 621 yards and four touchdowns. Kolar can also bridge the gap blocking. The Timberwolves welcome back a pair of starters on the offensive line in Daniel McMorris (6-6, 260, Sr.) and Pierson Brummer (5-11, 300, Sr.). North will be breaking in a new quarterback and some new faces on the offensive line, but you can expect this offense to be humming by the big games in district play.

DEFENSE

Max Beaty (6-2, 225, Sr.) was a bright spot for the defense in 2024 at middle linebacker. Beaty made 72 tackles to go along with a sack and interception. Beaty has help on the way in the form of move-in Josh Williams (5-11, 205 Jr.). The younger brother of University of Oklahoma tackle Damonic Williams, Josh had a huge sophomore campaign in California before relocating to Norman. He will provide pressure from a defensive end spot opposite of promising newcomer Elijah Coleman (5-11, 200, Sr.). The secondary is the most experienced aspect of the defense. Noah Frasco (5-11, 170, Sr.) and Kylan Johnson (5-11, 175, Jr.) return at corner. There are several interchangeable parts at safety where Mason James will spend some time when his offensive duties allow. Ethan Rash (6-0, 180, Jr.), Tate Bryan (5-10, 160, Jr.) and J.P. Lundquist will all see playing time at safety or nickel. The Timberwolves allowed more than 30 points in six of their 12 games a year ago. If this team can routinely get stops, their win total should improve. The addition of a talented sophomore class behind an array of playmakers will have the Timberwolves in the hunt to be one of the best teams on the west side.
