Q&A with Bethel’s Payton Epperley
VYPE: What position do you play?
Payton Epperley: I have played first base all four years of my high school career. I truly enjoy playing this position, especially when I get the opportunity to make a good stretch or dig. My favorite part about playing first is when I am able to save a wild throw and still complete the out. It allows me to have my teammates back which is something I value a lot on and off of the field.
VYPE: What grade are you in this year?
PE: This year I am a senior in high school.
VYPE: When did you first start playing softball?
PE: I first started playing softball when I was in second grade.
VYPE: What are your expectations for the season?
PE: My expectations are very high for our team. In the previous years we have gotten so close to going to the state tournament, but we have never accomplished that goal. This year I expect us to work hard and do whatever it takes to ensure that we punch our ticket to state.
VYPE: What other clubs or groups do you belong to at school?
PE: I am the Executive Secretary of Student Council, a member of Leadership, The Blue and Gold Mentorship Program, Gifted and Talented, Yearbook staff and I participate in Bible study, FCA and National Honor Society.
VYPE: What do you love most about your team and teammates at Bethel?
PE: The energy that we bring to the field is my favorite part about my team! I love that, especially during high intensity games, we are all hype and cheering for each other.
VYPE: Who inspires you?
PE: My mom is the person who has inspired me the most! We have faced many difficult hardships in our life, but she has always done everything she can to make sure I have everything I want and need. She is truly the hardest worker I have ever met and she has taught me how to be strong and resilient! She has also helped me to be the best person I can be on and off of the field and for that I am very grateful!
VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?
PE: After I graduate, I will be continuing my softball and academic career at Southwestern Christian University while studying Elementary Education.
