Community Christian’s Reef Wilcox

Junior sprinter and jumper Reef Wilcox has quickly become one of the faces of Community Christian School’s varsity track program, pairing explosive speed with a mindset centered on joy, precision and faith.

Wilcox, a third-year track athlete, anchors his role on the team in the pure thrill of competition. “I compete in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m, and long jump,” he said. “This is my third year competing in track and my favorite part about it is getting to run against people, winning races, just going all out, running as fast as I can, the precision of it, getting my times and working on parts of my race to get faster.”

What keeps him coming back each season isn’t a particular role model, but the feeling of improvement. “I don’t really have somebody that inspires me to run I just love getting to run as fast as I can and getting better every day,” Wilcox said. He believes his greatest strength is in the shortest sprint. “I feel like my strength is my 100m and I’m working on improving my block start and explosiveness,” he said.

The environment around CCS track fuels that growth. “What I love most about the team is the energetic environment and having teammates and coaches that make the sport fun,” Wilcox said. Former teammates such as 2024 graduates Sam Boyles and Kendall Davis helped shape him early in his high school career. “Both Kendall and Sam helped me grow as an athlete in all of my events and I enjoyed doing track with them,” he said.

For Wilcox, representing Community Christian is about more than medals. “What makes representing CCS special for me is that we’re a Christian school and other people look at us as an example of what Christians are like,” he said. “It reminds me to be a good example of our school and glorify God with what I say and do on and off the track.”

Track, he added, has taught him lessons that go far beyond the finish line. “Athletics has taught me that even when things are hard in life you don’t quit, keep going and push through till the end, and you end up learning from it all.”
