Q&A with Choctaw’s Emery Taylor
VYPE: What grade are you in and how many years have you ran cross country at Choctaw?
Emery Taylor: I’m in 11th grade, and this is my fourth year of running cross country.
VYPE: What groups or clubs are you in at Choctaw?
ET: I’m apart of NHS and compete in track. I run the 800, 1600, and 3200 in track.
VYPE: Why is being a student-athlete at Choctaw special to you?
ET: Being at Choctaw is special to me because of how encouraging and fun the team is. It makes the hard days easier.
VYPE: How has being on the cross country team impacted you?
ET: Being on the team has given me something to look forward to every day. It’s helped me learn how to stay disciplined and really work towards my goals.
VYPE: What is your favorite race or type of course? Why?
ET: My favorite race is State because it has the most competition. Running with the best really pushes me to get a personal best.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the season?
ET: My goals this season are to qualify for state and go sub 19:00.
VYPE: What do you enjoy most about running?
ET: I enjoy making new friends because the cross country community is always so kind and encouraging. I also love that running gives me something to work towards.
VYPE: Who inspired you to run, or why did you start running?
ET: At first I started running because I needed something to do, but then I met my best friend. She inspired me and showed me how to love a sport that can be so challenging.
VYPE: What are your plans for after you graduate?
ET: After I graduate, I hope to be able to run cross country and track in college and pursue nursing.
