Choctaw’s Addison McBroom

Choctaw High School senior Addison McBroom is a setter on the varsity volleyball team. But volleyball is not her only activity.

“I am President of our schools National Honor Society and the treasurer for Transformation Choctaw which is our schools FCA. I am also Ms. September for this year’s Girl’s of the Month Club that is run by Choctaw Business Woman’s club,” said McBroom.

Her passion is volleyball and competing with her teammates. A group she loves being around on and off the court.

“I love how goofy and fun they are. There’s no better word to describe them than sisters and our program as one big family. We are always in tears laughing in the locker room. They are a bright light in my day,” said McBroom.

With any team competing at a high level, expectations are high, but for McBroom the expectations are manageable.

“I really expect to see the culture of our program shine this year. I know coach Winters has been doing her best to build a positive culture since she got here my freshman year, and I truly believe this is the year people will see that culture shine. I also expect to see our younger varsity team step up and prove ourselves to our opponents,” said McBroom.

McBroom said she gets inspiration from the people closest to her.

“I could’ve have asked for better parents. A little over a year ago I was diagnosed with a pretty severe health condition that kept me of court for the rest of my school season and into club,” McBroom said. “Throughout the last year my parents kept me afloat and really fueled me to keep pushing. It was hard to stay motivated after such a big setback but their continued encouragement and prayer over me really inspired me to believe in myself. A support system is ten times more inspiring to me than any pro athlete or famous person could ever be.”
