Q&A with Washington’s Shiloh Phelps
VYPE: What grade are you in this year and how long have you participated in cross country at Washington High?
Shiloh Phelps: I am a junior at Washington High School, and I have been running cross country here since 7th grade. I also run track here at Washington.
VYPE: What clubs or groups are you involved in at school?
SP: I’m in the National Honor Society.
VYPE: Who inspired you to run?
SP: The person who really inspired me to run was my dad. He would always run half marathons, and I always wanted to be like him and run all the time!
VYPE: What are you thinking about on long runs in competitions?
SP: The one thing that I mainly think about is trying my best and always thinking about who I can pass next.
VYPE: Is the starting position at the beginning of a race strategic? Explain.
SP: Yes, I think the starting position at the beginning of the race is very strategic because you want the spot where you won’t get trapped when the course starts to get smaller.
VYPE: Do you hear the crowd during a race?
SP: I always love hearing the crowd and listening to how loud people cheer for us!
VYPE: Where do you like to run, if you’re running for fun or practice?
SP: My favorite place to run is around Lake Hefner with my friends!
VYPE: What are your best times and where did you run them?
SP: My best time is 12:50 at Edmond!
VYPE: What are your plans for after you graduate?
SP: My plans after high school are to become a PA and run lots of marathons!
