Q&A with Del City Cheer & Coach Ashley Beeson – Presented by Bobby Lewis – State Farm Insurance

VYPE: Coach Beeson, what do you love most about this season?

Ashley Beeson: I have loved the squad’s determination to get better and their hard work through all the adversity they’ve faced. Their resilience and drive have been amazing to watch. I’ve also loved seeing how close they’ve become! They’ve truly turned into a family that supports each other through every challenge. Their pride in representing Del City High School shines through at every game, pep rally, and event.

VYPE: No formal captains, but you do have a senior who stood out this year.

AB: Patyence has been an incredible leader this season. She has taught all of the cheers and leads every call on the sidelines. She will be deeply missed when she graduates in May—not only by me, but by all of her teammates as well.

VYPE: What was the biggest surprise this season?

AB: We had to make to our competition routine…especially the last-minute ones! Those situations can be tough, but the team handled them with such a positive attitude and maturity. They adapted quickly, trusted one another, and worked together to make every adjustment count. It was also a great surprise to see so many of our younger cheerleaders step up with confidence and leadership this year.

VYPE: Favorite moment with this squad this season?

AB: Cheer camp. Watching the team learn new skills, grow in confidence, and represent Del City with pride was incredible. I’ll never forget the moment they hit a difficult stunt for the first time — the excitement and smiles on their faces said it all. Camp really brought them closer together and showed how much potential this group has when they work as one.

VYPE: What does the future of the program look like?

AB: I’ve been coaching this squad for almost two years now, and I’ve seen so much growth and change in that time. The program will continue to evolve with each new member, but my hope is that it always feels like a family. I want it to be a place where squad members can have fun, make memories, and grow as individuals. My goal is to build a program that teaches dedication, teamwork, and confidence, both on and off the mat. The future is bright for Del City Cheer, and I’m so proud of the direction we’re heading.
