Moore War City Duals – Presented by Eskridge

The cheers and shouts from parents echo across the Jag Arena as Westmoore hosts the annual Moore City Dual. Wrestlers came in and fought their hardest with their sister schools from all three high schools and their feeder junior high programs.

The duals started off strong with Southmoore vs. Moore boys, ending with 39-42. Southmoore gave a hard fight to start off the dual but gave the win to Moore. The girls ended 28-58, another win for the Moore Lions.

The Jags come up against the Lions, 33 to 46, and take the win. With it being on home turf, they had the home advantage. We asked Westmoore senior girl Kytain Perez for some insight into wrestling.

“What got me into wrestling was that I was always super aggressive. And the individuality. The community is unlike any other sport; you make more relationships. Wrestling is such a hard sport, physically and mentally. Our coach gives us three standards to follow: self-talk, keeping our feet moving and being humble. You know, that girl is probably super nervous to wrestle you as well, and just having that faith in yourself,” Perez said.

After her round with Moore, Perez won the Jag 100, earning herself a place in the 100 Pins Hall of Fame. It was a great moment to be rewarded this award, and right at home for that cherry on top.

The Lady Jaguars defeated Moore, 54-30. Girls came up extremely high with their last game against the Sabercats, 6-75, a sweep of pins and throws. We contacted junior Addison Cole for more information about this win and wrestling.

“It was great. Westmoore won in all fields, including our junior highs. It was great. One of the challenges in wrestling is getting to weight. You either have to gain or lose really fast, and it takes a lot of time. Our coach motivates us by saying, ‘Find a way in, not out.’ Also, my friends really motivate me too while I’m on the mat.” Cole said.

With all the matches at the Moore City Dual, Westmoore took first place and became the city champs. Beating both Southmoore and Moore in pins, the Jags took home the win!
