Choctaw’s Anna Malaske

By Rose Hutchins

Anna Malaske is a senior at Choctaw High School who competes in fastpitch softball, slow-pitch softball, and basketball. Recognized for her commitment and competitive spirit, Malaske plays centerfield and second base, displaying drive and passion anytime she steps on the field.

Malaske fell in love with the game of softball when she was just five years old and has been committed to the sport ever since. She loves the competition aspect of the game, especially the thrill of winning.

“I love to compete and win, but I also love diving and getting dirty; that’s what makes the game fun for me,” Malaske says.

One of Malaske’s biggest motivators is Oklahoma softball star Tiare Jennings. She loves the way Jennings attacks every aspect of the game.

“The way she represents Jesus in softball is truly amazing. She competes to win, and that really inspires me,” Malaske shares.

For her, the Choctaw softball team is special because the strong bonds they create result in lasting friendships. The team understands each other’s strengths and pushes one another on and off the field.

“We are truly friends, our bond is unique because we grew up together, and that chemistry shows on the field,” Malaske proudly explains.

Success in softball isn’t for the weak. Malaske credits her success from having a strong mental game, sacrifice, and a willingness to put in the work every day. She understands that you won’t be perfect every day, but staying consistent and showing up ready to strengthen your weaknesses daily leads to success.

Malaske’s athletic career has been filled with lots of achievements. She received All-State honors her senior year, broke school records, and won a slow-pitch state title her junior year; moments she will always remember.

Edmond Memorial is a matchup Malaske doesn’t hesitate to admit she enjoys winning against each year. She appreciates the intensity and competitiveness they bring to the field bringing the best out of both teams.

When she’s not on the field, Malaske is involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, and a leadership group within her church that she serves on regularly. She wants to set an example for younger girls striving to compete at the highest level by demonstrating good sportsmanship.

“You have to love the grind. There will always be someone better than you, but they don’t have to outwork you. Hard work pays off,” Malaske says. “Also, Christ is your identity, and softball is simply something you do, not who they are,” She added.

Looking ahead, Malaske plans to attend Oklahoma Baptist University to pursue a degree in nursing while also continuing her softball career.
