Southmoore’s Ethan Parrish
By Mike Moguin
When Ethan Parrish managed to earn the role as starting catcher for the Southmoore baseball varsity squad as a freshman last spring, he considered it his biggest sporting accomplishment. He also got to start the home opener.
Parrish gives credit for his success to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
“My inspiration comes from Jesus. He is number one in my life, and I have everything because of Him. He is the true example of how we need to live our lives, on and off the field,” Parrish said.
Now in his sophomore year, Parrish talks about what baseball has taught him that makes him a better person. “That you cannot rely on motivation only, but have to be disciplined no matter the situation,” he said.
The best advice anyone has given Parrish, he said, is “There is no trying, there is only doing or not doing.”
Having a teacher at school to talk about something you enjoy can make things fun. Parrish had that with his seventh-grade English teacher, Justin Seeley. “He was my favorite teacher because he always talked about baseball with me,” he said.
Landin Shippers is a teammate who has impressed Parrish. “No matter what, I can count on him to pick up a teammate, and he is a great example of discipline,” the Sabercat catcher said.
OU and the Boston Red Sox are, respectively, Parrish’s favorite college and major league baseball teams. His hobbies outside of sports are church, including his youth group, and lifting weights.
His favorite part about representing Southmoore High School as an athlete is “It gives me more opportunities to be a leader,” Parrish said.
“There are lots of people who have made an impact on me and my baseball career that I would like to thank,” Parrish said. “However, I want to say thank you to Coach (Hunter) Aggurie. He has seen my potential and continues to push me every day towards my goals. I am grateful for the opportunities he has provided me with baseball.”
