Southmoore’s Lelu Lamb – Soccer Spotlight

Southmoore’s Lelu Lamb

When Lelu Lamb steps onto the soccer field, she is not just playing for herself. She is playing for her teammates, her community and her school, Southmoore High. Being part of something bigger is a special feeling.

Soccer pushes Lamb outside of her comfort zone and challenges her to improve mentally and physically. She is now a senior and credits much of what she learned to the upperclassmen leaders she looked up to. Hannah Montoya was a teammate who left a big impression on her.

“Hannah showed me what leadership, accountability and work ethic look like on and off the field,” Lamb said.

Discipline, resilience, communication and staying composed under pressure are all skills learned through sports. These skills help Lamb both academically and personally. Playing on a team is also an opportunity to work towards a common goal and to build trust between teammates.

“My favorite part about soccer is the competitive environment and the impact I can make on the field as a goalkeeper, where every save can change the momentum of a game,” Lamb said.

Her favorite subject in school is English. She likes reading the books chosen for class. She also has great respect for her junior math teacher, who made a subject she struggled with understandable.

Lambs’ soccer career started in recreational leagues, then progressed to club and high school soccer. One of her favorite accomplishments was earning varsity playing time as a goalkeeper and growing into a leadership role on the team. She did not reach this point in her soccer career alone. She thanks those who helped her reach her goals.
“My parents inspire me because of their constant support, sacrifices and encouragement to work hard and stay focused on my goals. I’d like to thank my family, coaches and teammates for always believing in me and pushing me to be better every day,” Lamb said.

Between soccer games and practice, Lamb was able to find the time to go on a special vacation with her family.

“I went to Florida for the first time with my entire mom’s side of the family. It was super fun being with all my family at a place like that for the first time,” she said.

After high school, she wants to continue playing soccer at the collegiate level while exploring a future in nursing or healthcare.
