Moore’s Kaitlyn Estes
As a freshman on the Moore High School swim team, Kaitlyn Estes has already taken on some of the most demanding events in the pool — and she would not have it any other way.
Estes competes in the 500-yard freestyle, 200 individual medley and 100-yard butterfly, a lineup that tests both endurance and versatility. “The event I’m swimming is the 500-yard free, 200 IM and 100-yard fly, and the most difficult is the 500 because it is the longest and it takes the most time,” she said.
While the races are grueling, Estes said the culture around Moore swimming keeps her going. “I love the teamwork and relationships made to help each other be better swimmers,” she said. She credits coach Landon Adamo for setting that tone every day in practice. “Coach Landon Adamo inspires me to be the best swimmer and pushes me to keep going even when I am tired. He will not give up on me and he treats everyone on the team with respect.”
Estes said her butterfly technique and overall speed have improved during her first high school season, and she balances swimming with STUCO, choir and club training at the Norman YMCA. Away from the water, she lists Algebra I as her favorite subject and points to her fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Fiaccone, for helping her understand and enjoy math.
Her favorite memory this season did not come from the starting blocks but from a Christmas party spent “hanging with teammates and laughing.” Around the team, Estes said, “Makenzie Williams is the loudest, but Jack Witte keeps the team laughing.”
In the pool and out, Estes said sports have shaped how she treats others.
“Athletics has taught me the importance of encouraging others and supporting them,” she said.
