9 Questions with Washington’s Owen Andrews – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Ortho Central

Washington’s Owen Andrews

VYPE: Owen, what grade are you in and what position do you play on the Washington baseball team?

Owen Andrews: I’m a senior and I play pitcher and infielder.

VYPE: What accomplishment or memory are you most proud of?

OA: The accomplishment I’m most proud of is winning our 4th state championship in a row when the entire state of Oklahoma said we couldn’t and weren’t good enough. My memory I’m most proud of is giving my life to Jesus Christ and getting baptized my sophomore year.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that makes you a better person?

OA: Baseball has taught me how to deal with failure and how to be a leader. I learned that you need to be okay with failure because success only comes with failure. I also learned that to be a leader, you need to lead how you would want to be led.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?

OA: My favorite teacher is Coach Orr, my Spanish teacher. I’ve had Coach Orr as a teacher for the last three years.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

OA: My youth pastor Andrew Cunningham inspires me. He constantly shows up for not just me, but for every kid in the community. He’s a follower of Christ and it couldn’t be more prominent.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

OA: Marlon Moore has left the biggest impression on me because he’s the only teammate I’ve ever had that would run through a wall for anybody on the team even if they wouldn’t do the same for him. He’s a true competitor and it bled into me and who I am as a player now.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

OA: My favorite part about representing my high school as an athlete means I get to represent something bigger than myself. I get to go compete not for myself, but for my brothers and coaches next to me.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

OA: The best advice I’ve received was a long time ago and is still harped on today. “Control what you can control.” This applies not just to baseball, but to life.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

OA: Thank you, mom and dad, for the extra hours, my coaches for pouring into me, and Jesus Christ for blessing me with my love for baseball.
