Washington’s Julie Hoehner
Julie Hoehner has spent her senior season behind the plate for Washington High School with a clear sense of what matters most: competition, leadership and faith.
The Washington High School varsity softball catcher says the moment she cherishes most is already part of school history. “Winning state my senior year is the accomplishment I am most proud of,” Hoehner said. That achievement helped define a season built on high expectations and the kind of daily standard she says runs throughout the school’s athletic program.
Hoehner said softball shaped her well beyond the field. “Softball has taught me how to work well with others. It has also taught me how to be a leader,” she said. Those lessons are especially important in a position that demands communication, toughness and trust from every player on the field.
Her motivation also comes from the people closest to her. Hoehner said her sister made the biggest impact on her athletic life because the two were able to play together during her freshman year. “We would equally push each other to be better and we would keep each other accountable,” Hoehner said. “It was also fun competing who could get the most home runs.”
When asked what stands out most about Washington High School, Hoehner pointed to a culture that reaches beyond wins and losses. “Each sport is good in its own way, and everyone competes to the highest standard,” she said. She added that what she loves even more is that “no matter what happens we will always glorify God.”
That faith remains central to how Hoehner views both success and support. She said she respects “every Christian Athlete who puts God before everything else,” and she expressed gratitude for the chance to play the game she loves. Hoehner also thanked her family, friends and coaches for believing in her and helping her become the best athlete she could be.
For Hoehner, softball is not only about championships. It is about using talent with purpose, leading teammates well and honoring the people and beliefs that helped shape her journey.
