Edmond Santa Fe’s Bella Le
Edmond Santa Fe sophomore golfer Bella Le did not grow up dreaming of tournament leaderboards, but she did grow up watching her biggest inspiration – her dad – walk fairways. His steady presence with a club in his hands eventually drew her into the game, and now she is emerging as one of the Wolves’ promising young players.
Le, a second-year golfer for Santa Fe, did not start playing competitively until later in her childhood, but the sport quickly became central to her life. Any free time she gets, she tries to spend on the course, sharpening a game that already includes a career-best round of 77 in a school tournament this fall. That day was memorable not just for the score, but because the Wolves also finished first as a team. “Sharing that win with my team was a pretty great experience,” Le said.
Ask Le about her favorite club and she does not hesitate: the pitching wedge. It was not always that way. “Ironically, when I first started playing, I hated this club because every time I would use it, it would just be terrible,” Le said. “But now I can always count on it, I warm up with it, and it’s my go-to.” She feels similar growth on the greens. “I would say putting,” she said of the area that has improved the most. “It’s still not the best and I’m still working on it, but I feel as if it improved my game a lot better than it was before.”
Away from tournaments, Le’s favorite place to play is Quail Creek Country Club, a course she praises for its layout, conditions and greens. In the classroom, she gravitates toward anatomy and calls Mrs. Bowman, who teaches the class, her favorite teacher because “she is the sweetest.” Athletics, Le said, has taught her not to waste time because it “comes by so fast so quickly,” a perspective she believes will help her be successful later in life. When she is not golfing, Le enjoys time with family and friends, shopping, and watching her favorite professional, Akshay Bhatia, who’s bold on-course demeanor she admires.
