Choctaw Cheer Spotlight
Kamryn Sweet is in her first year at Choctaw High School as the head cheer coach as well as teaching ninth grade English. It didn’t take her long to fall in love with the CHS Yellowjacket community.
“I love how supportive the community is,” said Sweet. “It truly is unmatched – the love and support that we get from everyone in Choctaw.”
Sweet is a graduate of Southmoore High School, where she was a cheerleader all four years. Her passion for cheer led her to remain part of the sport as a coach.
“I love to watch my athletes become better humans through cheerleading,” she said. “Watching them achieve their goals and learn how to be a good teammate, learn life skills and become leaders is what I love about coaching cheer.”
She characterizes this year’s cheer squad with the word “resilience.”
“They have been through so much in the past couple of years and they show me just how resilient they are every day,” she said.
Choctaw cheer had a big season this year, as Sweet reflects on the highlights.
“Bringing a state championship back to Choctaw after 13 years, seeing the team work together to become a family and all of the laughs we’ve had so far!”
Leading the charge when they secured this huge achievement was a great group of seniors, including Abby Peckham and Karli Stanfill. Many juniors have stepped up this year to lead as well and will be relied upon next year to carry the torch.
