Choctaw’s Caylin Foster
Choctaw High School senior Caylin Foster has earned her place in the Lady Yellowjackets’ varsity soccer lineup, and she carries that role with pride, perspective and gratitude.
Foster, who plays primarily as a holding midfielder, said her path to the field did not come easily. “I play mainly at the 6,” Foster said, “but I have been switching with the 9.” She said one of her proudest accomplishments was “making my way to the starting lineup on varsity.”
That climb helped shape the way she approaches the game. Foster said soccer has taught her to be “patient, efficient,” and to play with “mental toughness” and resilience. Those qualities have helped define her senior season and the steady presence she brings to Choctaw’s lineup.
Her motivation also comes from the people around her. Foster said her father inspires her most because “he is the most determined and dedicated person I’ve ever met.” She also credits a longtime teammate, Lindzee Brush, for pushing her to improve.
“We have played together for five years, and we have seen each other grow,” Foster said. “We push each other to our best every day.”
Off the field, Foster said one of the most meaningful influences in her life has been Mr. Riley. Even though she never had him in class, she said he “taught me the most I need to know for life.”
For Foster, high school soccer is about more than minutes, matches and results. She said her favorite part of playing for Choctaw is “representing all the people that played before me and carrying on their program.” That sense of responsibility reflects the pride she feels in being part of something larger than herself.
As she looks ahead, Foster said she leans on one piece of advice: “Everything happens for a reason.” It is a mindset that has helped her stay grounded through challenges and success alike.
She also made sure to thank the people who helped her get here.
“I want to say thank you to my parents for getting me to where I am, and my family for helping me, and my best friend for always being there for me,” Foster said.
