Destiny Christian’s Bryce Taron
Destiny Christian High School sophomore distance runner Bryce Taron is already chasing big times and even bigger dreams, one stride at a time. A standout for the cross country and track programs, Taron has carved out a reputation for discipline and quiet competitiveness built on consistency, family support and a love for the grind.
Taron, who owns a personal-best mile of 5 minutes, 5 seconds, and a 17:47 5K set at the Memorial Marathon race, said he is constantly racing himself as much as the competition. “I’m thinking about my pace and what I got to do to stay on track,” he said of long races. “Trying not to fall off or slow down.” Every meet and even practice becomes a measuring stick. “Every race, even in practice, is a competition,” Taron said.
That competitive edge is fueled at home. Taron said his parents are his biggest inspiration, especially on the days when motivation is hard to find. “They always push me to be better, even when I don’t feel like it,” he said. “They make me work on getting faster at running and keep me going on days when I have zero motivation. I watch how they deal with tough stuff, and I’ve learned a lot from them.”

On the course, Taron leans on his teammates as much as he does his training. He describes the Destiny Christian group as fun, supportive and driven. “They are all very enjoyable and fun to hang out with,” he said. “Plus, we like to push each other to be better.”
Away from competition, Taron enjoys playing basketball in his driveway and hanging out with friends, and he often logs extra miles around his neighborhood or at local parks with trails and hills to simulate race conditions. Athletics, he said, has already given him life lessons that stretch beyond the finish line, teaching him to stay disciplined, never give up and trust that progress comes with consistency.
Guided by a favorite quote “If you ain’t first you’re last” and a future goal of attending the University of Oklahoma to pursue becoming a pilot, Taron is focused on dropping his times and seeing how far running can take him.
